Let’s think back to better times, when you could actually leave the house. Where have you run into a Twins player (or other pro athlete) in public?
For me, I was about ten years old, and the PGA Championship was at Hazeltine. I had the privilege to attend with one of my friends and his dad. As we took in the sights and sounds, we spotted a tall goatee-ed man walking near us. It was none other than Joe Nathan, Twins All-Star closer. I was able to overcome my bashfulness and get him to sign the Twins hat I was wearing that day. It was a very cool experience.
However, I’ll always be jealous of a few of my best friends. In high school, I was not out with them that night in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, when they shuffled into a local Culver’s. You’ll never guess which dairy-loving, tall, sideburned man was in the restaurant that night. That’s right, Joe Mauer. I’ll be forever envious of that group for that interaction I missed.
How about you? Have any of you caught Joe Mauer buying a concrete mixer, or Joe Nathan taking in some golf? Maybe Eduardo Escobar enjoying some Fogo de Chao?
