Another Friday, another discussion. Who is your favorite Twins manager ever?
Tom Kelly has the championships. Ron Gardenhire has the lovable-ness. Paul Molitor was a hometown kid. And Rocco Baldelli has recency bias. Even further back, maybe you enjoyed the fiery Billy Martin or steady Sam Mele.
Personally, I have to fight my recency bias. Too young to remember the Tom Kelly years, Rocco is certainly the manager I can remember who I think the highest of currently. However, the jury is still out, as he has but one year under his belt. While Molitor does have the Minnesota roots on his side, my favorite manager has to be Ron Gardenhire (at this point).
While Rocco may overtake him with a couple more good years, I remember fondly the days of my baseball fandom youth watching Gardy manage the teams made up of Santana, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, and Punto. His affection for Nick Punto is the single greatest example of love that I have ever seen in my life (sorry Mom & Dad). I enjoyed his round, red face, his outbursts at umpires, and his trademark dugout slouch. While he may not have been the best tactician, he certainly was lovable.
Now, it’s your turn. Who is your favorite Twins manager of all time? Explain in the comments section!
