Today’s lineups:

MIN: Max Kepler RF, Jorge Polanco SS, Luis Arraez 2B, Miguel Sano 1B, Eddie Rosario LF, Nelson Cruz DH, Marwin Gonzalez 3B, Byron Buxton CF, Alex Avila C, Jose Berrios P

NYY: Mike Tauchman CF, DJ LeMahieu 2B, Gleybar Torres SS, Giancarlo Stanton LF, Aaron Judge RF, Mike Ford 1B, Gary Sanchez C, Gio Urshela 3B, Brett Gardner DH, Rony Garcia P

As mentioned yesterday, the Yankees rotation is a shambles, and today’s proof of that is Rony Garcia. Despite that, Garcia matched Jose Berrios tonight, as both teams went through the fifth with only one run on the board.

The two sides swapped tallies in the third. For the Yankees, it was Brett Gardner with a solo home run. On the Twins side, the run came via a string of singles by Jorge Polanco, Luis Arraez, and Miguel Sano.

The Yankees finally broke through against Berrios in the sixth. Gleybar Torres hit a leadoff single, and Giancarlo Stanton hit the next pitch into the stands to make it three-to-one in favor of the pinstripes.

In the eighth inning though, facing reliever Chad Green, it was the bats of Jorge Polanco and Luis Arraez that came alive. Max Kepler led the inning off with a walk. Polanco then tied up the game with a two-run homer. Luis Arraez gave the Twins their final margin, going back-to-back with Polanco and adding a homer of his own.

Notes

  • Eddie Rosario stole his first base of the year.
  • Taylor Rogers is now up to 14 saves. Former Yankee Tyler Clippard got the win.
