Welcome back to another Friday fun-day fireside chat! I humbly present to you this week’s discussion topic: Which Twin has impressed you the most through the first six games of the season?
Bomba Squad 2.020 has certainly had a hot start to the new season. After pummeling the lowly White Sox (the Sox are still lowly until further notice) in two of the first three games of the season and sweeping the Cardinals, the Twins head into a key series with Cleveland with some hot bats in the lineup.
Nelson Cruz is a strong pick for this question. Even at 40 years old, Cruz is an absolute man on fire. If the season ended today (which isn’t that far-fetched), the slugger would have the strongest case for MVP in the American League. However, Cruz is not the only choice.
Luis Arraez has lived up to the “walking single” expectation that he earned last year. Batting .400 (at the time of this writing) and flashing some improved defensive skills in the field, the young second baseman is an absolute stud.
You could also make a case for any number of players. Jorge Polanco has been playing perhaps the best defense of his career. Miguel Sano has struggled at the plate but has looked very comfortable (aside from last night) with his position switch to first base. Rich Hill and Kenta Maeda have both pitched great in their first starts. The bullpen has been largely lights-out so far. Max Kepler started the season off with a bang. Eddie Rosario has walked *checks notes, spit takes* 3 TIMES so far this season. He might even make it 4 before you read this.
My pick would have to be Nelson Cruz, even with all these strong choices. The ageless wonder has been an absolute hitting machine so far. We already knew Cruz was good, but his performance so far has been otherworldly, even at the age of 40. Boomstick is aging like a fine wine.
What do you think? Who has impressed you the most so far? Let us know in the comments!
