The Minnesota Twins have lost five out of the their last six games, and it kind of feels as though the sky is falling.

Then again ... the Twins are 11-7 and in first place in the A.L. Central. They hold the third-best run differential in the majors. And, they have a chance to win the series tonight with their best starting pitcher on the mound.

Kenta Maeda is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA on the season. He has a WHIP of 0.65 and has 16 strikeouts in 17 innings. Outside of one swing of the bat by Gregory Polanco in Pittsburgh, Maeda was awesome last time out, giving up just three hits and one walk in six innings.

The Twins gave Maeda an extra day of rest, and he’ll be asked to go at least six innings this time out following a not-so-successful bullpen game in Tuesday’s loss to Milwaukee.

Maeda will be opposed by lefty Eric Lauer. The former Padre has only made one start in a Brewers uniform and it was disastrous: six earned runs in three innings against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Twins will counter with a Max Kepler-less lineup for just the second time this year as Jake Cave takes over in right field and the struggling Mitch Garver will leadoff and try to park one in one of the various sponsored areas the Brewers have beyond the fence at Miller Park.
