Know Thine Enemy: Let’s Go Tribe
Baseball is fun. Berrios vs. Clevinger in a series-deciding game in Cleveland? Sign me up.
Let’s not be too dramatic; while the season is now more than half over, nothing is actually being decided on Wednesday night at Progressive Field. But a two-and-a-half game lead over Cleveland would certainly feel a lot better than a half-game lead. (Also, the White Sox crushed the Pirates already on Wednesday and are only a game back, plus surpassed the Twins in run differential. But this is a happy place, so, no White Sox.)
This matchup feels a lot better for the Twins than it would have if it had taken place a couple of weeks ago.
Mike Clevinger hasn’t pitched in a game since August 5, prior to his violation of team rules (and common sense) during a night out on the town in Chicago. Jose Berrios had struggled mightily up until he threw six shutout innings with nine strikeouts against Milwaukee last week.
Neither offense is all too scary right now, either, with the Twins battered and bruised and Cleveland possessing a mediocre offensive group to start with.
Here’s hoping for the Twins to bust out against a potentially rusty Clevinger, and for the Twins to win their 9th series in 11 tries this season.
Enjoy the game, contribute to the thread, and we’ll see you back here again postgame for for a celebration/commiseration.
