Twins offense picks it up late for the win

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Minnesota Twins Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Twins and Indians started today’s game in completely opposite ways. Pirates center fielder Cole Tucker started with a leadoff home run while the Twins offense was shut down for the first five innings. Derek Holland didn’t let anything get going for the Twins while the Pirates jumped to a 4-0 lead over Lewis Thorpe.

Of course, as many left handed pitchers have learned, you can’t keep this Twins offense quiet forever. By the end of the 6th inning it was all tied up. The Twins has six straight players reach base with two outs including a Max Kepler RBI double. The game was tied with the late inning Minnesota relievers entering.

Matt Wisler came in for the 7th and got a nice 1-2-3 inning. He has proven to be a solid pickup early this season. He was then sent back out for the 8th and did the exact same thing.

Taylor Rogers shut down the Pirates in the 9th and gave the Twins a chance to end the game in the bottom half. After a bloop single, walk and fly out Nelson Cruz came up with two runners in scoring position. He crushed a ball to the deepest part of the park and the Twins have their first walkoff win of the season!

Your Minnesota Twins are 8-2 and leading the central division. Let’s keep it going!

Studs: Nelson Cruz, Max Kepler, and the best bullpen in baseball
