Donaldson looks to return tomorrow.

It was rumored that Byron Buxton would be activate off the Injured List today by the Minnesota Twins, and within the last half hour, it’s officially happened.

Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage was the first of the Twins beat reporters to provide the news via Twitter (link 1, link 2):

  • Buxton (.221/.225/.456, 5 HR, 12 RBI) has been activated and is now on the active roster. He has been on the I.L. due to left shoulder inflammation after sliding into home plate to score the winning run in the extra-inning contest against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 18. He played one more game before landing on the Injured List.
  • Starter Michael Pineda has also officially completed his suspension and has been added to the active roster. He will be a breath of fresh air for the depleted pitching corps.
  • LaMonte Wade Jr has been optioned down to the alternate site. The outfielder has played in seven games, going 3-for-15 with an RBI.
  • Juan Minaya was apparently on the roster (who knew?) but is now in DFA limbo in order to make room for Big Mike.
  • Lefty Danny Coulombe has cleared waivers and was outrighted to the St Paul site. He provided 2.2 innings of work in relief, allowing two hits while walking three and striking out three batters.

Many of the beat writers, including LaVelle E Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune (Twitter link), have said that third baseman Josh Donaldson will return to the active roster tomorrow. The front office is hoping that in lieu of a silent trade deadline for the Twins, the return of these players will do some good for the team.

Let’s hope that happens.
