Both starting pitchers will be donning glasses tonight. How cool is that?
Glasses-donning pitcher number one will be Randy Dobnak. He will be pitching for our favorite team, the Minnesota Twins. He’s a cool dude. If you’re unaware, Dobstache and his wife have been involved in fundraising efforts for St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, including listing it on their wedding registry last season. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic wrote earlier this year about their involvement with the hospital (subscription required, but well worth it; they even have a spectacular special going on right now). This past week, the couple presented a check for $25,000 to St Jude’s from Great Lakes Bat Co, which partnered with Dobnak to sell Dobnak-related merchandise and have the funds go to St Jude’s. The same will continue this season.
Dobstache’s ERA is no longer lower than 1.00, but he still has an ERA+ of 121. He’s pitched in the same number of games this season as last season. He’s struck out 23 batters each in 2019 and this season. That’s your fun fact of the night!
Glasses-donning pitcher number two will be Dane Dunning. He will be pitching for our non-favorite team, the Chicago White Sox. I don’t know anything about this man’s character, so I cannot say whether he is a cool dude or not. The right-hander is starting his fifth game of 2020 and of his big-league career. The owner of a 2.70 ERA/2.81 FIP is striking out batters at a 9.5 K/9 clip and has a 3.00 K/BB ratio. His four previous starts were against teams such as the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Hopefully the Twins can show him what it’s like to play against a real MLB team. (BURN!!)
Travis Blankenhorn will make his major-league debut tonight! Rosie is back! Sanó is back!
