The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks closed out August with a seven-game winning streak and two of their players are getting recognition for their performances from last month. The American Association announced the Rawlings Sports Pitcher and Batter of the Month for August yesterday.
Southpaw Matt Tomshaw, who earned his second Pitcher of the Week honors of the year for his pair of starts last week, gets some more hardware for his trophy room. He’s been named as the Pitcher of the Month. He currently leads the league in complete games (3) and is third in wins (5) and ERA (2.78). His August performance included a 5-1 record with a 1.50 ERA in six starts across 48 innings of work. Tomshaw was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins and spent parts of nine season with the Miami Marlins and Chicago White Sox organizations.
Infielder Drew Ward has earned Batter of the Month; this his second honor of the year as he won Batter of the Week in mid-July. He’s in his first season with F-M and posted a .402 batting average with five doubles, nine homers, and 28 runs in the month of August. His triple slash on the year is .337/.417/.612 with 13 homers and 39 RBI. He originally is from the Washington Nationals organization, where he played in a handful of spring training games prior to the pandemic hitting the United States.

Today is the deadline for AA teams to finalize rosters for the rest of the season:
- The Winnipeg Goldeyes, who are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak, has signed Breland Almadova to their roster. The outfielder has been playing in the Constellation Energy League - put together for this season due to the pandemic - based in Sugar Land, Texas. He’s batted to a .305 average with 12 RBI and 39 stolen bases.
- Another team made a roster move prior to the deadline. The St Paul Saints has signed Pete Tago. The rigty is a first round compensatory pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2010. He was with the York Revolution in the Atlantic League last season, pitching to a 3-1 record with a 4.26 ERA in 28 appearances out of the bullpen. After being traded to the Sioux City Explorers, he started 11 games, going 6-3 to go with a 3.16 ERA and two complete games, one being a shutout.
The game between the Goldeyes and the Chicago Dogs last night was postponed due to weather. The game will be made up on Thursday as part of a doubleheader with each game being seven innings as is standard in the AA.
