Sure, we could just as easily lose the next ten ballgames, but after a pair of dominating performances to end the month of April, I think everyone is ready to flip the narrative as we enter May.
The Twins have won consecutive contests for the first time in a few weeks, and in effort to keep the roll going, they’ve run out much the same lineup as last night.
Those top three have been working out — in the sense that they’ve meshed well into their roles, although I’m sure they’re pumping iron all the same — and as long as Alex Kirilloff keeps squaring everything up, he’ll be stationed at first until Miguel Sano returns. Kyle Garlick is back in the lineup, with lefty Danny Duffy on the hill for Kansas City.
Duffy’s been great, by the way; an 0.39 ERA in his first four starts of the season, striking out 27 opponents in 23 innings of work. The Royal lifer is generating swings and misses early this year, accruing strikes with his breaking mix and putting hitters away with a sneaky little fastball.
Meanwhile, Matt Shoemaker has dealt with a few too many baserunners and a few too many homers (2.3 HR/9) in four outings so far as a Twin. His loss against Pittsburgh was his best start since April 5th in Detroit; it was the first time all year he hasn’t given up a homer, which hopefully bodes well for a few more settled-in performances heading forward.
GO TWINS GO!
