Know Thine Enemy: Lone Star Ball

Coming off of the first encouraging series in awhile, the Twins have the Rangers rolling into town tonight.

The Rangers were projected to be one of the worst teams in the American League this year, and are currently in last place in the AL West. Then again, the Twins actually have a worse record than Texas currently. Both teams are coming into today off of series wins, as the Rangers took 3 of 4 from Boston and the Twins 2 of 3 from Kansas City.

Tonight could be a good opportunity for Kenta Maeda to have a badly need “get-right” game. Texas is in the bottom third of the league at 4.03 runs per game, with a .686 OPS. Maeda will need to turn things around in a hurry in order for the Twins to turn their season around, as he’s a crucial part of the pitching staff and a 6.62 ERA isn’t going to do the trick.

On the mound for Texas will be Dane Dunning. The big right-hander was sent to Texas from Chicago in the Lance Lynn trade this off-season, and has pitched fairly well thus far, posting a 3.97 ERA in 22.2 innings. Byron Buxton homered off of him in his one start against the Twins last year, but no Twin has more than three career at-bats off the rookie.

Lastly, we have a roster move from today. This appears to be a move to get Mustache Randy some regular innings as the AAA season is set to begin:
