Whew. Right when it looks like the Twins are back on track, the bullpen strikes again.
After a true heartbreaker on Tuesday night, Minnesota has called up Lewis Thorpe to take climb the bump and try to erase the horrific taste of his squad’s collapse only 24 hours prior.
Thorpe started the first (and only) game the Twins played in L.A. earlier this year, allowing two earned runs in four innings. He then pitched a single inning in relief in Oakland a few days later before he was optioned off the roster.
The Texas Rangers are also deploying a spot starter in Hyeon-Jong Yang, who will be making his first career MLB start. He’s pitched 8 2⁄3 innings in relief after being recalled just under two weeks ago, allowing only two earned runs during that span.
Rocco Baldelli has bumped Byron Buxton back up to the leadoff spot and theoretical lefty-masher Kyle Garlick is in the cleanup spot. Also, Miguel Sano is back (yay!), although Alex Kirilloff is on the injured list with a sprained wrist (boo!).
Enjoy the game!
