If You Can’t Say Something Nice

Happy Mother’s day

Minnesota Twins v Chicago White Sox

It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday. Mothers everywhere, of course, deserve our gratitude, and as a tribute to my own mother, I offer the following:

As a child growing up on a farm in Minnesota, my mother taught me the phrase that most of us have heard, but few of us ever follow: “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.” I have certainly lived my life failing to adhere to this worthwhile principle. While a discussion of that phrase, or how we fail to live up to it might allow me to take a paragraph or two or further waste your time, I think it truly speaks for itself, so I will let it.

This, of course, brings me to our current version of our beloved Minnesota Twins. As I write this, on the morning of May 6th…about all I can say is that the Twins play the Tigers this weekend, with that, comes hope, all other things that I’m thinking about the pitching, the hitting, the defense, the....everything....all of that can wait. I shall leave it at that for this week. My mother would have been proud of me.
