You can’t win ‘em all, even though each Twins victory this season has us all hoping, “hey, you know what? What if the team just won out from here? Seems reasonable!”
Unfortunately, the thrilling Yankee upset on Thursday night did not lead immediately into a 28-game winning streak, although there’s still plenty of ball left this year to establish one. Instead, Minnesota dropped the series opener to the Houston Astros, who would hold the second Wild Card if the season ended today. (Although, realistically, if the season ended today, it would probably be for reasons that would then limit the feasibility continuing on with a playoff tournament.)
Tonight, a national audience will get all caught up on how disappointing our season has been, and how injured Byron Buxton is at any given moment. Who says the MLB doesn’t know how to promote the game?
Jose Berrios will be out there, ready to fan some fellas. He’s been Minnesota’s most consistent starter this year. He’ll face a Houston starter with a similar (albeit brief) track record, the 24-year-old Luis Garcia. Garcia’s running a 10.4 K/9 and a 2.75 ERA, having allowed just 22 earned runs in over 70 career innings since debuting primarily out of the pen last season.
