Know Thine Enemy: Lone Star Ball
Did you know, the Texas Rangers were, too, once the Washington Senators? After Calvin Griffith moved the team from Washington to Minnesota for the 1961 season, the nation’s capital was immediately granted an expansion team. Even though Griffith kept the history, the records, and the players, Washington was able to continue using the name Senators. For just over a decade, the expansion team played in D.C., before packing up stakes and heading west, in the grandest of American traditions. In this case, they landed in the vicinity of Dallas-Ft. Worth, and became known as the Texas Rangers.
Washington would not have another baseball team until Bud Selig stole the Expos, moved them, and rebranded them as the “Nationals.”
One final note, as it is Father’s day, feel free to drop your best “dad jokes” in the game thread.
