Winners of their last four games, the Twins welcome Cincinnati to town for a quick two-game tilt. The Reds, losers of their last four, will be looking to get back to their winning ways, while the Twins will look to build upon their recent success and go on a run.
J.A. Happ will take the mound for Minnesota. The veteran lefty has given up 5, 4, and 5 earned runs in his last three starts, respectively, so he will look to turn things around today. On the other side, Cincy will be throwing Tyler Mahle. Mahle, a 26-year-old right-hander, has been excellent this year for the Reds, posting a 3.39 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched. Cincinnati also can hit pretty well, as outfielders Nick Castellanos and Jesse Winker are two of the top three leading vote-getters in the outfield for the NL all-star team.
The good news for the Twins is that they’ll be running out an actual big-league lineup today. Nelson Cruz, after his injury scare the other day, is back in the lineup, and Byron Buxton, Max Kepler, and Luis Arraez are all returned. Buxton seems to have picked up right where he left off after his stint on the I.L., which makes the Twins a completely different team then the squad we saw struggle their way through a sad month without him.
Lineups!
