Know Thine Enemy: Covering the Corner
Remember Lewis Thorpe?? He’s healthy and back in the bigs, and he’s starting for your Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of the series against Cleveland.
Thorpe pitched well early this season, putting up a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings, including three starts. He last pitched in the big leagues as the Twins’ 27th man in a May doubleheader against the Angels. Shortly after being sent down, Thorpe was placed on the minor-league injured list and missed roughly two months with a shoulder strain.
In six games with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints this season, Thorpe has an ERA of 4.76 over 17 innings.
He’ll be opposed by Cleveland’s Zach Plesac, who had been struggling mightily of late until throwing 7 2⁄3 innings of two-run ball against Detroit his last time out. The Twins have faced him twice this year and have generally fared well, scoring eight earned runs over 11 1⁄3 innings across two games.
Enjoy day baseball!
