If you read the title and thought to yourself, “Well, obviously. Who the heck wrote this?” then that’s good. If you read the title and thought “Maybe he’s right but if Colome finishes strong... maybe Simmons as a cheap utility guy.” Then you need to stop what you’re doing and give that up completely. Under no circumstance can Andrelton Simmons or Alexander Colome return to the Twins in 2022.
This isn’t just because they’ve both had down seasons. Simmons is typically only kind of below league average but this season is just awful. Colome has been alright recently but suffered another meltdown in Boston. Maybe they can bounce back in 2022. This is more about removing all of the bad vibes or memories from this season completely. This thought came to me as I was watching Colome blow up for the 69th time this season on Wednesday night.
If you’re letting thought like this creep into your head then it’s time to exorcise those demons immediately.
Asked a version of this last week. Nobody would like this but it's possible. #MNtwins turned down Romo's $5m option last winter but they may value Colomés veteran status and experience in a rebuilding bullpen. At the very least he's recouping some value. https://t.co/NaDXaHHgvU

Cody is great. I can only hope that any remaining thoughts of keeping Colome were washed away in Boston on Wednesday night. If he still has any semblance of hope for keeping Colome around then we have big problems.
When it comes to Simmons, I haven’t seen many campaign for his return to Minnesota in 2022, but fans around the league are advocating for him for some reason.
SS Andrelton Simmons - He’s continued a disappointing offensive showing from 2020, but his defense is still elite at the top of the league. He’s likely available on a cheap 1 year deal and maybe the O’s can rebuild his swing. If not, he can shore up the infield defense (3/?)

If you’re a fan of the Twins in any way then you have one mission. Let fans of other teams think like this. Simmons must be working some magic for this to happen and I’m cool with it as long as it means he isn’t playing for the Twins in 2022.
Is this blog being too harsh on these two? I don’t think so. They’re the remaining two of the four season ruining free agents (Simmons, Colome, Happ, and Shoemaker) so the Twins just have to do what they did with Happ and Shoemaker. Let them go.
The 2021 season has been a disaster unforeseen by everyone. At the root of all of it is a bad bullpen and the COVID issues in the first couple weeks. At the root of those two issues are Alexander Colome and Andrelton Simmons. Let the bad mojo leave with them after this season and retool for another hopeful season in 2022.
I don’t think the Twins will attempt to bring either player back. I’m just out here trying to eliminate even the smallest thoughts of that being a good idea. Time to move on.
