Mets 2, Twins 0: Mets throw a 2-hit shutout

David Festa turned in a solid start but the offense just wasn’t there tonight.

The Mets’ lefty starter, Sean Manaea, could do no wrong tonight, as he went 7 innings and struck out a season high 11 Twins batters. He did this while giving up just 2 hits and a walk.

David Festa turned in a nice start tonight, only giving up 2 runs in 5 innings, striking out 6. The first Mets run came in the 4th on an RBI single by J.D. Martinez. In the 5th, Mark Vientos hit a solo homer to left to make it a 2-0 game.

Jorge Alcala, Griffin Jax, and Caleb Thielbar would keep the score there for the rest of the game, but the Twins were just not able to get anything on Manaea and the Mets bullpen. Their best chance came in the 8th inning, with 2 on and 2 out and Byron Buxton at the plate. The Mets brought in their closer, Edwin Diaz, and, after a battle, Buxton struck out to end the inning.

The Twins went quietly in the 9th, giving us our 2-0 final score. They will try to avoid a sweep tomorrow, with Pablo Lopez on the mound.
