Triple-A: Rochester Red Wings 8, Syracuse Chiefs 2
Okay, let’s cut to the chase: C Mitch Garver hit THREE dingers yesterday! One of them came off Chiefs starter SP Sean O'Sullivan while the other two came off RP Jaron Long, who is apparently pretty bad at giving up the long ball. it was the first time a Red Wing player hit three home runs at their home ballpark Frontier Field) ever.
2B Bengie Gonzalez also went 3-for-3 with a walk, but those weren’t three home runs so no one cares about you, Bengie.
Starting for the Red Wings was SP Justin Haley, still rehabbing. He gave up one run on three hits and a walk over 4 innings. Whatevs.
RP Craig Breslow also threw an inning of rehab relief, and also gave up a run on one hit and one walk.
Double-A: Chattanooga Lookouts 5, Pensacola Blue Wahoos 1
Pretty solid little start for SP Kohl Stewart here. Stewart, who has a 3.73 ERA in Double-A this year, lasted 6 innings, giving up only one run on three hits and a walk. He also struck out six.
The offensive star at the plate for the Lookouts was clearly DH Jonathan Rodriguez, who went 4-for-5 with a double. CF LaMonte Wade, who also seems to be heating back up, when 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
High-A: Ft. Myers Miracle 4, Palm Beach Cardinals 2
The Miracle got power from an unlikely source yesterday: defensive star CF Tanner English, who somehow hit two home runs? I mean he’s no Mitch Garver, but that’s pretty impressive.
SP Cody Stashak lasted 6 innings and only gave up two runs, while usual strikout start RP Andrew Vasquez threw a scoreless innings, but somehow didn’t strikeout anyone this time. He still has a 0.00 ERA in High-A, though.
Low-A: Cedar Rapids Kernels 2, Peoria Chiefs 1
CF Aaron Whitefield homered for the Kernels, but only once, so he is a failure to his family.
The home run was one of only give hits the Kernels had in the game. 1B Lewin Diaz hit a double but the rest were just singles. Lame.
SP Anthony Marzi had a strong start, though, going 7 innings and giving up only one earned run on two hits and a walk.
Rookie League: Johnson City Cardinals 2, Elizabethton Twins 1
Losers. All of them. Especially RP Jared Finkel, who made two errors and blew the save for the baby Twins.
