Triple-A: Rochester Red Wings 5, Charlotte Knights 4 (Game 1)

Back on April 23rd a game between the Red Wings and the Knights was rained out, so yesterday we got a double header! The Red Wings won the first game thanks to a big five-run 3rd inning, that included an RBI double by LF Matt Hague, a bunch of singles, and a fortuitous throwing error by Knights 3B Tyler Ladendorf.

SP David Hurlbut started the game for the Knights, and gave up three earned runs over 5 innings. RP Michael Tonkin threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts. He has a 1.85 ERA in Triple-A now.

Triple-A: Rochester Red Wings 3, Charlotte Knights 0 (Game 2)

SP Aaron Slegers ruled! He threw a complete-game shutout, though it was only 7 innings because of the doubleheader. Four hits and a walk were all he gave up to the Knights.

Meanwhile at the plate, DH ByungHo Park hit a solo PARK BANG, which was his fifth of the year. 1B Matt Hague drove in the other runs with a two-RBI single.

Double-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 9, Chattanooga Lookouts 6

The Lookouts were looking really good in this one, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning before DH Andy Wilkins launched a GRAND SLAM in the bottom of the 2nd to put the team up 6-0.

Unfortunately, Lookouts SP Felix Jorge struggled. A lot. He lasted only 4.1 innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and three walks and effectively erasing the Lookouts’ early lead.

Then RP Randy LeBlanc came in and gave up three more runs, and, welp.

High-A: St. Lucie Mets 7, Ft. Myers Miracle 3

At one point in this game, the Miracle were up 3-0. Then the 6th inning came, however, and Miracle RP Michael Theofanopoulos gave up four runs—including two dingers—and had to be pulled before even getting the third out.

The Mets continued to pile it on, getting two runs in the top of the 8th and another run in the top of the 9th off RP David Fischer.

The good news is Miracle RP Andrew Vasquez, who threw 1.1 scoreless innings. He STILL has a 0.00 ERA over 18 innings in High-A this year. Oh, and SS Jermaine Palacios, who went 4-for-5, accounting for over half of the Miracle’s seven hits in the game. Okay, fine, and I guess 1B Zander Wiel, too, who went 1-for-2 with a double, a RBI, and two walks.

Low-A: South Bend Cubs 2, Cedar Rapids Kernels 1

1B Lewin Diaz hit a sac fly to score CF Aaron Whitefield in the top of the 1st inning, but that was the only run the Kernels could muster in the game. It’s a shame, too, because Kenerls SP Eduardo Del Rosario have a pretty good start, giving up only the two earned runs over 6 innings of work.

Rookie League: Elizabethton Twins 13, Greeneville Astros 0

Uhhh... would you believe me if I told you this game was 0-0 going into the 8th inning? Because it was.

What was a pitching duel between Twins SP Huascar Ynoa and Astros SP Hansel Paulino turned into a home run derby as the baby Astros bullpen apparently sucks. 2B Jose Miranda hit a solo home run, CF Matt Albanese hit a three-run dinger, and 3B Andrew Bechtold hit a two-run shot as part of the scoring barrage. DH Colton Waltner also hit two doubles.

Amazingly, LF Brent Rooker, who has been really hot, went 0-for-4 in the game.
