A recap of the Twins' minor league affiliates' results from July 6th, 2017.

Triple-A: Pawtucket Red Sox 1, Rochester Red Wings 0

It was a pitching duel between Red Wings SP Tim Melville and Red Sox SP Hector Velazquez, and unfortunately it did not go Melville’s way. Interestingly enough, that one run in the game was actually, technically unearned, but it came thanks to a throwing error by Melville himself, so.... yeah.

Otherwise, Melville lasted 8 innings, giving up only four hits and a walk.

The Red Wings batters only got fours hits total as well, with two of them being by LF Matt Hague. Wonder boy CF Zack Granite went 0-for-3, but did walk once.

Double-A: Tennessee Smokies 2, Chattanooga Lookouts 1

Another sort of pitching duel went on here too, with the Twins affiliate once again coming out on bottom. In this case the pitcher was top prospect SP Fernando Romero. Romero lasted 5 innings, but gave up two earned runs, including a solo home run to 3B Jason Vosler. He did strike out seven batters, though.

LF LaMonte Wade was by far the standout at the plate for the Red Wings, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. He’s hitting .285 on the year now in Double-A.

High-A: Ft. Myers Miracle 8, Tampa Yankees 3

1B Zander Wiel went 4-for-5 with two doubles and RF Jaylin Davis hit his first High-A home run as the Miracle trounced the Yanks 8-3. It was a good day all around as the Miracle batters wracked up fifteen hits total.

SP Lewis Thorpe managed his longest outing of the season, going 5.2 innings, but he did give up all three of the Yankees runs in the process. Still, he struck out six, and it was encouraging.

Meanwhile, strike out machine RP Andrew Vasquez threw 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. He still has a 0.00 ERA over 13.2 innings at High-A this year.

Low-A: Cedar Rapids Kernels 7, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6

The Kernels scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to snatch this come from behind victory from the Rattlers.

There was a lot of power in this one too, 1B Lewin Diaz, 3B Andre Jernigan, LF Christian Cavaness, and RF Hank Morrison each hit solo home runs for the Kernels. 2B Joe Cronin hit two doubles and scored the go-ahead run in the 8th.

SP Domenick Carlini started for the Kernels, and wasn’t all that great, giving up five earned runs over 5 innings. He has a 5.53 ERA on the year. The only other Rattlers run in the game was unearned, and came thanks to an error by Jernigan.

Rookie League: Elizabethton Twins 8, Princeton Rays 5 (Game 2)

Doubleheader! 3B Ariel Montesino slugged out two home runs for the baby Twins in the first game, which was cool. 2B Carson Crites and LF Brent Rooker also hit home runs, which was also cool. Rooker, by the way, already has four home runs on the young Rookie season.

Rookie League: Elizabethton Twins 9, Princeton Rays 8 (Game 2)

The baby Twins won the second game as well, and this one was a walk off! 3B Andrew Bechtold hit a sacrifice fly to score RF Shane Carrier. Carrier, by the way, had himself a nice game, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

SS Wander Javier committed the baby Twins only error here, leading to two unearned runs for SP Melvi Acosta.
