Farm Report: Fernando Romero throws solid five innings in Lookouts win

A recap of the Twins' minor league affiliates' results from August 2nd, 2017.

Triple-A: Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4, Rochester Red Wings 3

Red Wings SP Tim Melville could just not contain IronPigs 1B Rhys Hoskins, who homered off Melville in his first two plate appearances. Those dongs stung Melville for three runs, which is all he gave up over 5.0 innings of work.

LF Daniel Palka hit a two-run home run in the game, though, so that was fun. It was his ninth dinger of the year, but Palka was out for awhile there with a broken finger.

Double-A: Chattanooga Lookouts 5, Montgomery Biscuits 2

The Lookouts jumped out to an early lead in this one, with CF Levi Michael hitting an RBI single in the 1st innings, and LF Travis Harrison following up with a two-run dong in the 2nd inning. That right there would have been enough for the win, but the Lookouts went on to score a couple more runs later in the game as well.

It was good run support for SP Fernando Romero, who had a solid outing, lasting 5.0 innings and gave up only one run. RP Dereck Rodriguez, son of Pudge—apparently kicked out of the team’s rotation due to recent pitching additions—almost messed it up for Romero, loading the bases in the 7th inning with no outs. Luckily, he proceeded to strike out the next three batters. Impressive!

High-A: Ft. Myers Miracle off

Scheduled off day for the Fightin’ Mientkiewiczes

Low-A: Kane County Cougars 9, Cedar Rapids Kernels 1

Not a good day for Kernels SP Evan Sanders, who gave up five earned runs over 5.0 innings. It was also not a good day for Kernels RP Bryan Sammons, who gave up three earned runs over 3.0 innings. Or RP Logan Lombana, who gave up one run over 1.0 innings.

Come on Kernels.
