Triple-A: Columbus Clippers 4, Rochester Red Wings 1

SP Tim Melville actually had a brilliant start for the Red Wings, giving up only one run on one hit over 7.0 innings. He even struck out nine batters. Alas, it all came unraveled 8th inning when a throwing error by SS Engelb Vielma led to three unearned runs for RP Drew Rucinski. He got stuck with the loss for that, of course.

The Red Wings batters, meanwhile, only managed five hits in the whole game. LF Daniel Palka had two of them, going 2-for-4 overall.

Double-A: Jackson Generals 9, Chattanooga Lookouts 3

It was a tough start for top prospect SP Fernando Romero. who gave up six runs and only lasted 5.0 innings. He even balked in a run. The good news, I guess, is that Romero didn’t walk anyone, but he didn’t strikeout any batters either.

RP Dereck Rodriguez, son of Pudge, relieved Romero and didn’t do much better. He gave up three more runs over the next 3.0 innings, including a two-run dinger.

The Lookouts batters only got four hits total. RF Max Murphy had the only extra-base hit of the four, which was a two-run triple. Alas, that’s not enough for the win when the other team scored nine runs.

High-A: Palm Beach Cardinals 5, Ft. Myers Miracle 4

Miracle SP Eduardo Del Rosario struggled here, and was responsible for all five of the Cardinals runs. He only made it 4.0 innings, and now has a 4.50 ERA on the year in High-A.

1B Brent Rooker hit his fourth High-A home run of the year, though. IT was a nice three-run blast in the 6th inning.

Low-A: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7, Cedar Rapids Kernels 2

This game was actually a lot closer than it looked, but the Kernels RP Colton Davis gave up four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to make this thing more of a run away. Part of those four runs was a solo home run by Timber Rattler 1B Ronnie Gideon.

The Kernels star at the plate was definitely 2B Ben Rortvedt, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles. No other batter had more than one single.

Too much rain.
