Double-A: Chattanooga Lookouts 3, Montgomery Biscuits 2

HELL YEAH BABY, THE LOOKOUTS ARE SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!! They captured their title yesterday in dramatic fashion, as 1B Jonathan Rodriguez hit a walk-off, come-from-behind home run in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Biscuits 3-2.

If it seems like their playoff run was awfully short, that’s because it was. Just as with the Florida State League, the actual Southern League Championship Series was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. So the Lookouts are co-champions along with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

But woo! The Fightin’ Mauer’s are the champs! It’s the first time Jake Mauer has won a championship in his managerial career.

Also worth nothing SP Dietrich Enns started for the Lookouts yesterday. It was sort of a rehab start, but he’s not technically on rehab assignment because the Twins actually activated him and optioned him to Double-A. He pitched 4.0 innings yesterday and gave up two earned run on five hits and zero walks. The Twins could decide to call him back up to the majors with expanded rosters and all.

Anyway, enjoy the Lookouts being happy:

High-A: Ft. Myers Miracle over

The Ft. Myers Miracle’s season ended when they lost in the playoffs on a walk-off hit by pitch.

Low-A: Cedar Rapids Kernels 7, Quad Cities River Bandits 4

The Kernels kept their season alive yesterday, beating the River Bandits in Game 2 of the Western Division Championship Series. RF Shane Carrier and 2B Travis Blankenhorn both blasted home runs in the game, and 3B Caleb Hamilton went 3-for-4 with THREE doubles. Damn!

SP Charlie Barnes helped out on the mound, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings. The only runs the River Bandits made out with came from RP Patrick McGuff (three runs) and RP Randy Dobnak (one run).

The Kernels will play the final, deciding game of the series tonight. If they win, they’ll advance to the championship series.

Rookie League: Elizabethton Twins over

The baby Twins were the Appalachian Rookie League Champs! Their season is over now—successfully over.
